Independent Music Discoveries: Issue #6

Another fabulous installment in the ongoing series- recommend your favourite indie artists in the comments!

Ladybear - Rock / Alternative / Indie - Twickenham / London, UK
Ladybear are an up-and-coming three-piece British group comprised of Amy Nicholls, Louis Matthews, and John Martin, whose latest demo was produced by Amy's brother Morgan Nicholls (known for performing with the Streets, Gorillaz, and Muse). Described as "No nonsense big vox rock", "Crocuses" and "The Garden" are sweet and powerful vocal-centric tunes- the sort of music that ought to turn mainstream radio on its ear!

Spencer Rich - Psychedelia / New Wave / Folk Rock - Georgia, US
With psych-jangle rock elements in abundance amongst the lo-fi atmosphere and a vocal delivery recalling a blend of Syd Barrett and Stephen Malkmus. "Kiss Forbidden Spiders" and "Athens Summer '04" are highly recommended!

Oh Ne - German Pop / Experimental / Psychedelic - Dützen/Unterlübbe/Todtenhausen, Germany
I first came across Oh Ne through spotting the music at the blog RAMIN TON, through Hype Machine. A bit trippy: chiptune-meets-krautrock-meets-space rock, I found this music immediately likable- some of the best independent stuff I've come across yet. Besides, the cover of HI might be familiar to you...
Listen to "Schmetterling und Buchhalter" and "Der Kojote"

Shyneboxx - Indie / Rock / Alternative - New York, US
Previously featured in our very first Independent Music Discoveries, Shyneboxx now has a new track available:
"Lonely on a Summer Afternoon", offers up quite a new direction for the band, taking an introspective turn with softer guitars. Their previous release Shyneboxx is available to stream on Last.fm.

NOMO - Other - Michigan, US
It's no wonder NOMO have their genre listed as 'Other' at their MySpace Music site- there are bits of jazz and funk and sprinklings of krautrock throughout their music, making for a unique listening experience. Listen now to the very groovy "Invisible Cities"!

Nomo is awesome.
Btw, I feel weird to be doing this, but since we're bffs, would you be interested in reviewing an album I recorded? It's an awkward little album, but some people seem to like it.
get back to me on lastfm or email if you can :D
