Independent Music Discoveries, Issue #21

Another installment in our continuing series - recommend your indie favorites in the comments!

---
*UPDATES ON PAST ARTISTS FEATURED!*
Mojo Method - Psychedelic / Other / Rock - Louisiana, USA
Mojo Method, which I previously described as "decidedly avant-garde", have recently released their new EP Everything, Ever (Up Until this Point) on Bandcamp! These songs, including the previously featured "Sphinx vs. Cobra", solidify this band as one of the most promising independent artists I've encountered yet. These guys bring a genuine, carefree spirit to their music, not to mention a powerful punch of musicality, that makes for immensely enjoyable listening. Check out "Camouflage", and you'll hear what I mean!

Mr. Dream - Rock / Alternatve - New York, USA
Described in a past issue as having "a dash of old-school punk and some insanely catchy tunes ", Mr. Dream's latest release Mr. Dream Goes To Jail finds this group honing their sound, and turning out the particularly great
"Lawnmower Man". Watch out for these guys!

Oh Ne - German Pop / Experimental / Psychedelic - Dützen/Unterlübbe/Todtenhausen, Germany
Truly one of my favorite independent bands out there, Oh Ne are a German group (also part of the music blog RAMIN TON) that have newly released the album Netzeband Glitzerwelt (streamable in full on Last.fm), which combines some tracks from their previous output. This is, seriously, one of the best, most creative albums that I've heard in 2009, with its blend, and transcendence, of genres like minimal synth, chip-tune, space rock, and prog rock. Recommended: "Eine Millionen Dollar in Senf" and "Islandia 2"

JAEGER - Electro / Alternative / Indie - USA
Hil Jaeger is a multi-talented producer/dj/musician who is "exploring the union of electronic landscapes and human voice". It certainly sounds that way, hearing
"No Echo", with a powerful chorus of voices everywhere, and spinning glittery electro-sounds all around. JAEGER's "Re Re Reckoner" is easily one of the best Radiohead remixes I've heard, a entire re-invention of the track.

ARMS - Indie / Shoegaze / Melodramatic Popular Song - New York, USA
Todd Goldstein's (guitarist from Harlem Shakes) solo project ARMS has a rather peaceful, breezy sound all around, as you can hear on "Kids Aflame", title track to the album to be released in the US on October 27th. Ukuleles, ahoy!

The Red Channels - Folk Rock/ Soul / Trance - Oklahoma, USA
While they've drawn comparisons with 4AD artists, Blonde Redhead, and Mazzy Star, and the duo The Red Channels (Ryan M. Block and Elaina Azar) do craft some spooky, shoegazy sounds, there is certainly a unique presence of a peculiar, carnivalesque atmosphere, and a strange beauty throughout. Take a listen to "Waltz", from their new album Ghetto Cooking, and let yourself get carried away along with the mystery...
