John Carpenter - Fairy Tales Forgotten

John Carpenter has been featured on A Future in Noise for over a year, figuring in the top EPs of 2009, independent music discoveries, and had one of the very first music submission reviews on the site. Recently featured on Stereogum and with a fantastic single out on Mexican Summer ("Seasons" w/ "Haunt My Home"), John Carpenter and his crew (J. Explosive on drums, live personnel including Jeff Phillips on bass and Matt Eddy on keyboards) look to be an act you should definitely be watching out for.

Why? For starters, Carpenter has one of the most soulful voices you'll hear in music today, backed by the likes of "Scott Walker, Echo and the Bunnymen, Roy Orbison, John Cale and early Roxy Music" as influences, with a unique injection of poetic beauty (I don't throw that word around lightly, mind you!). Top this off with the music itself, insanely eclectic and changing to suit whatever the song calls for - on the brand-new release, Fairy Tales Forgotten, you'll find a moody sort of psychedelia, avant-garde chamber-poppy tones, and some unfamiliar, uncharted territory where the depths of music history have been plundered, redecorated and transformed into something altogether new. That all may sound grandiose, but I mean it 100% - this is one of the most important, as-yet-unheralded (yet!) artists you are likely to find around right now. You'll know it when you hear it, and hey, you can say you knew about it all before the ridiculous levels of success that I hope are to come for these fellows. Recommended tracks from Fairy Tales Forgotten: "Nothing is Wasted"!

I couldn't have said it better myself.. Johns music has been at the least inspirational to me since we were playing 35 minute jam sessions of Sunshine or every Jimi tune possible for hours on end.. Bravo John, "Fairy Tales Forgotten" is f*#king awesome! Thanks for the great music, Dan

PS: there should be "confirm" step after you click publish here. Damn this simplicity :-)
